The app is a virtual SPACE for those who have had enough of the larger social media networks and can not be found in an app store - scroll down to find out why.
Our Compound app consist of two components:
1) A general space open to anyone who would like to use the app and the features open to the public.
2) The SOULcial Club which is the private social network that requires all to register and be approved.
This version of app is what many would call the "beta version" and was created by Courtney (under her community building agency, dba, beyond The Flats) -- So there will be some adjustments and changes as we learn and expand together.
If you have an idea, project or community that you desire to launch, grow or remodel, reach out and let's talk about it.
First, thing first --
You will not find this app on Google Play and it is currently only available for Android phones.
So how can you download it?
You're going to need to take the step to sideload it -- which basically means going through the backdoor to your phone by manually allowing access.
I know, it sounds complicated and might have you thinking that you're phone will exploade, but that's only because -- well, "scare tactics" by those who benefit from having you go through the Google Play store.
In the process of creating this app, I learned a lot more than just how to create an app, but the politics behind being forced to jump through (what seemed like) a million hoops just to get an app ready for submission and then approval!
Knowing what I know now, only reinforced the reasons I was moved to create a SPACE (the app) as an alternative to the major players.
I'm not got to spend a lot of time, going into all the reasons some have been "protesting" the two entities who control the app stores, but I will provide you with some links so that you can do your own research/reading.
"Most Android devices come with Google Play, also known as the Play Store. This is a one-stop-shop for apps, games, music, and movies. It's Android's answer to Apple's App Store.
Unlike on iOS, it's relatively easy to swap out the Play Store for a different app store. But should you? There are quite a few reasons to answer with an emphatic "yes."" Via Should You Replace Google Play Store With an Alternative App Store?
